Remember the Red Cross and Give Blood
Summer's an important time to remember to give blood. Supplies are often low--regular donors may be out of town, more accidents can occur with lots of folks traveling. Midtown Donor Center is right in our neighborhood at 1955 Monroe Drive (behind Gables Apartments). Check out RedCrossBlood.org for hours and call 1-800-REDCROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make an appointment.

Going on Vacation? Want a Burglar to House Sit? Then DON’T follow this advice.
Good neighbor Joy sends along some advice on ways to keep your house safe while you’re out of town.
Don't Leave Signals that you are Out-of-Town: mail flowing out of your postal box . . . a gazillion newspapers in your front yard!
If you are going out of town, please stop your newspaper and mail. You can call or go online and bookmark the actual "vacation hold" pages so you can go right there next time you want to stop your paper or mail. And, if you’re a PH Security Patrol member, you can call 404-874-8872, so the Security Patrol can check your house.

Two Parks . . . One Fantastic Neighborhood!
Did you know residents of Piedmont Heights have not one, but TWO areas of green space within our wonderful community? In addition to nearly 3 acres at Gotham Way Park (located at the end of Gotham Way off Wimbledon Road), we also have a small area called Piedmont Heights Park located at the intersection of Montgomery Ferry and Pelham Roads.
Gotham Way Park is maintained by the Gotham Way Park Committee and Piedmont Heights Civic Association and is a great spot for children, families and pets to gather and enjoy our neighborhood. For more information about Gotham Way Park, please e-mail Lorrie Griffin at vlgbuddy@aol.com. Piedmont Heights Park has been adopted through Park Pride and Ken Price of Re/Max Greater Atlanta. Mr. Price can be reached at 404-786-8295 or remaxKenPrice@yahoo.com.

The Landscape Partner can also be hired by you to oversee/coordinate the install process as it occurs to ensure your plan is going in as designed.
Fun Under the Sun at Camp KDO
The littlest campers have a special place for summer fun this summer.
Camp KDO is a half-day preschool summer camp (9 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.) for children 3- 6 years old (rising first graders). Younger children (mobile infants, 8 months - 2 years) are welcome to participate, too, in our modified Toddler Camp, to a maximum of two days per week.
* Our unique, flexible camp schedule fits your family’s summer plans: your child may attend as few as 10 days, as many as 50 days – or any number in between. You choose the individual days during the particular weeks you want your child to attend. No paying for days you won’t use or registering for more days than you want.
* Our multi-tiered pricing structure means the more days your child attends, the less expensive per day Camp KDO is for you!
* Weekly themes, like Dinosaur Daze, Sports & Games, and Cowboys & Cowgirls, are reinforced through planned, daily activities, such as arts & crafts and cooking.
* After-camp enrichment classes keep the fun going from 1-3 p.m. every day for potty-trained kids ages two and up.
* Camp KDO provides a pizza lunch one day each week.
For more information or to download a registration form, please visit our web site at www.KDOPreschool.org.

KDO Preschool Registering for the 2010-11 School Year
Rock Spring KDO Preschool is accepting registration for the upcoming school year, which begins on Tuesday, August 17. We offer programs for:
* Two-day per week toddler programs for children ages 12 – 24 months on September 1 of the school year.
* Preschool classes for two- and three-year olds;
* Private pre-K and kindergarten classes.
KDO Preschool encourages learning and a solid foundation in academic readiness through fun and play. We invite you to find out why teachers and parents of our KDO Preschool “graduates” routinely praise their preparedness for elementary school. Visit the web site at www.KDOPreschool.org or call 404-875-8270 to schedule a tour.
Opportunity to volunteer: Neighbor Jeff MacKenzie on Kilburn has been talking with folks at Morningside Baptist about a plan to possibly landscape their geologically interesting cliff on Monroe. If you have architectural, landscape design, or related skills and would like to join in the discussions, email Jeff at jffjul@gmail.com.
Did you know . . .
. . . as a property owner you are responsible for trimming trees or vegetation along the sidewalk in front of your house? Walking through the neighborhood is a great way to enjoy the greening and flowering of spring. But it's no fun if you're ducking and side-stepping to avoid vegetation or physical obstacles. So please, remember to make way for walkers by keeping your sidewalk area clear. Sidewalks should be accessible to all people, including wheelchair users and the visually impaired. The Americans with Disabilities Act says the clear zone must be at least 36 inches wide and 80 inches high. No bushes, flowers, or grasses should protrude into the sidewalk area. Herbie Curbies and your yard waste bins should not be left on the sidewalk. Sidewalks are for pedestrians. Please make way for walkers by trimming your hedges and tree branches. Thanks to alert Neighbor Joy for this timely reminder!
Remember: You Can Recycle Electronics on the 3rd Saturday of Every Month; Newspapers & Magazines Every Day
Don't forget that the third Saturday of every month, you can bring your old electronics to the Eighth Street parking lot, across from Grady High School. For a complete list of what can be recycled, go to KeepAtlantaBeautiful.org.
Our friends at the Kroger on Monroe continue to host the recycle bins in their parking lots where we can take our newspapers and magazines. PHCA receives the proceeds from that recycling.
